Operations CXO Status Report
Friday 8/18/00 11:00am EDT
During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.
Real-time procedures were conducted during the week to perform the 8th ACIS Squeegee Mode test, retract the LETG, and perform a solar array off-point demonstration.
The Squeegee Mode Test was conducted at 6.30am EDT on Aug 12 and tested a new subarray mode. Initial analysis results indicate that the FWHM is comparable to the "maximum angular resolution" squeegee mode. This represents the last new mode test planned for the Squeegee runs.
The LETG retraction was performed at 6.30pm EDT on Aug 12 using a long move of 153 seconds followed by 9 short moves of 0.128 seconds duration. The total time was well within the range of expected times and telemetry indicated a nominal move.
The solar array off-pointing demonstration was conducted at 10.30pm EDT on Aug 14 using a combination of real-time and daily load commanding. The arrays were off-pointed by 75 degrees and then adjusted a further 1.5 degrees to ensure sufficient battery depth of discharge. The test proceeded as planned and the data collected from the demonstration will be used to determine the correct off-point angle for the lunar eclipse to occur in October. The solar array off-pointing will ensure that the spacecraft avoids a bus over-voltage condition at the completion of the eclipse.
