Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 29 November 2002, 7.30am EST

Last week the observing schedule was halted due to high radiation associated with solar flare activity. The loads were halted on Nov 26 at 7:02pm EST through a ground command to execute the SI Safing SCS 107. This ensured that the accumulated radiation dose for ACIS remained below the allowed threshold. Loads were restarted at 10:30pm EST on Nov 27. Observations of BR 2213-6729, SNR1987A, PSR J1016-5857, HS 1251+2636 and J132512+112329 (total 90.5 Ks) were impacted by the event and will be rescheduled in a later load.

Of note last week was the announcement of Very Large Observing Projects available to proposers in Cycle 5. Up to 3 million seconds have been allocated for projects requiring 1 million seconds or more. For details see http://asc.harvard.edu/udocs/VLP.html.

The observing schedule for next week is shown below and includes an observation of M31 coordinated with the Hubble Space Telescope. The load also includes the commanding to conduct an aspect camera dark current calibration on Dec 3.
