Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 24 February 2012 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was completed on Feb 23 to uplink a flight software patch to allow the ACIS High-Radiation Flag to be made available to the on-board computer. This flag is planned for future use within the radmon process. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Feb 24 to dump OBC-A memory as a follow-up to the flight software patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory image maintained on the ground.

A Chandra press release was issued on Feb 21 describing Chandra observations that have found the fastest wind ever coming from a disk around a stellar-mass black hole. This record breaking wind is about 20 million miles per hour - about 3% the speed of light. This wind may be carrying away much more material than the black hole is actually capturing. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/12_releases/press_022112.html

Of note this week was the release on Feb 23 of CALDB 4.4.8. This update includes ACIS time-dependent gain corrections for the period from November 1, 2011 through January 31, 2012. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/Release_notes/CALDB_v4.4.8.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of PSN J05001372-0320512, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Feb 17.
