Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 16 September 2005 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was resumed at 1:00am on Sept 13 following the shutdown due to high radiation on Sept 7. A total of 285 Ks of observing time was lost due to the event. The loads were interrupted a second time at 9:06pm on Sept 13 due to a further high radiation event and were restarted at 5:50pm on Sept 15 after radiation levels had dropped to acceptable levels.

Shortly after the resumption of the science schedule, at 7:32pm on Sept 15, the ACIS Digital Electronics Assembly side-A (DEA-A) powered off unexpectedly. The decision was made to allow the loads to continue, despite the inability to acquire science data, in order to allow the execution of a maneuver to a favorable thermal attitude. Telemetry was dumped and processed overnight to support the anomaly assessment.

In the event that both solar conditions and ACIS investigation permit restarting observations, the schedule of targets for next week is shown below.
