Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 20 November 2020 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Preparations were completed for the winter 2020 eclipse season; the season contains thirteen eclipses and runs from Nov 17 to Dec 19. Real-time procedures were executed on Nov 16 to prepare for the first eclipse: one to activate SCS 29 and one to dump and clear the EPS glitch counters. Chandra passed through the first and second eclipses of the season on Nov 17 and 20, with nominal power and thermal performance.

Real-time procedures were executed during each ground contact to reset the DSN Outage Dead Man Load.

Of note this week was the approval of a full return to science for the HRC instrument. The marks the conclusion of the HRC recovery activities following the HRC A-side electronics anomaly on Aug 24.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Saturn, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Oct 19, an observation of AT2020xnd, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Oct 26 and is coordinated with NuSTAR, and an observation of WR 140 coordinated with XMM.
