Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 19 May 2023 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was executed on May 18 to uplink a flight software patch that updates the Aspect Camera Assembly (ACA) Processor Electronics Assembly to enable on-board dark current subtraction using a dynamically-generated dark current map. This substantially improves the ability of the ACA to track faint stars as Chandra continues warming. This complex patch is the culmination of six years of effort including a very comprehensive program of design analysis and ground testing. In addition, in order to develop and test the patch a high-fidelity hardware emulator of the ACA CCD and readout electronics was built and a full-featured software development toolkit for Forth was written. These tools will help the team continue improve the ACA capabilities.

Of note this week was the release on May 18 of the Sherpa 4.15.1 package for Python. This release of Sherpa includes various documentation updates, bug fixes, and infrastructure changes. For detailed release notes see: https://github.com/sherpa/sherpa/releases/tag/4.15.1

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of SN2021ahpl, which are follow-ups to a Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Apr 23, an observation of SDSS J141645.57+534447.0, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on May 2, and an observation of XTE J1701-462, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Mar 28.
