Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 26 May 2023 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra image release was issued on May 23 describing new images that combine data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and James Webb Space Telescope. Chandra observes X-rays from cosmic objects, while Webb is sensitive to infrared light. These four new composites show how these two telescopes observe different types of phenomena. This compilation includes two different galaxies, a nebula where stars are forming, and a star cluster in a nearby galaxy. For details see:

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of SDSS J141645.57+534447.0, which are follow-ups to a Target of Opportunity which was accepted on May 2, observations of GRB 230506B Epoch2, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on May 12, and an observation of SN 2023ixf, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on May 22.
