Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 25 August 2023 9.00am EDT

During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra press and image releases were issued on Aug 23 describing combined Chandra and XMM-Newton observations of the tidal disruption event (TDE) ASASSN-14i. Because of its proximity, ASASSN-14li has provided an extraordinary level of detail about the destroyed star. The recent observation combined with new theoretical models to allow for improved estimates of the amount of nitrogen and carbon around the black hole. For details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/23_releases/press_072023.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Terzan 6, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on Jul 28 and is coordinated with the VLA, an observation of SDSS J215954.45-002150.1 coordinated with HET, an observation of GRB230812B which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Aug 21, and observations of SN 2023ozo which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Aug 17.
