Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 15 September 2023 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate an observation of GRB 230906A, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Sep 9. Time from a scheduled observation of ESO137-G034 was impacted by the replan and will be rescheduled in a future week.

Chandra passed through the 3rd, 4th, and 5th eclipses of the season on Sep 9, 12, and 14 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance. Of note this week was the release on Sep 14 of CalDB version 4.10.7, which updates HRC-S QE Uniformity data sets and includes additions to the PCAD ACA-primary DARK_CURR (dark current) file. For details see: https://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/Release_notes/CALDB_v4.10.7.html

Chandra image releases were issued on Sep 13 highlighting five objects observed with Chandra and other telescopes, incorporating data at X-ray, infrared, optical, and radio wavelengths. The featured targets are the Galactic center, the Kepler supernova remnant and the Vela pulsar (both remnants of exploded stars), ESO 137-001 (a galaxy trailing extended hot gas), and the spiral galaxy NGC 1365. For details see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2023/archives/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of GRB230812B, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Aug 21.
