Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 29 September 2023 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the 8th, 9th and 10th eclipses of the season on Sep 22, 25, and 27 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

Chandra press and image releases were issued on Sep 26 describing a movie made from images of Eta Carinae taken by Chandra over the last 20 years. The Eta Carinae system contains two massive stars. In 1843, the system experienced a huge explosion that has been dubbed the "Great Eruption." The time-lapse sequence shows clear changes over time. The data, combined with that of XMM-Newton, indicate the existence of a prior eruption sometime between 1200 and 1800. For details see: https://chandra.si.edu/press/23_releases/press_092623.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below.
