Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 17 November 2023 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Of note this week was the Chandra Quarterly Review conducted on Nov 15.

A Chandra image release was issued on Nov 15 describing a new collaboration that is enabling actual data from NASA telescopes to be used as the basis for original music that humans can play. Since 2020, the “sonification” project at NASA’s Chandra X-ray Center has translated the digital data taken by telescopes into notes and sounds. This process allows the listener to experience the data through the sense of hearing instead of seeing it as images. In this new phase of the sonification project, the team has developed versions of the data that can be played by musicians. For details see (and hear): https://chandra.si.edu/photo/2023/music/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of PSO J135.3860+16.2518, which are coordinated with NRAO and the VLA, observations of GRB231115A, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Nov 16, an observation of Cyg X-3, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Nov 6 and is coordinated with IXPE and the SMA, and an observation of HE 0230-2130, which is a follow-up to a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Oct 31.
