Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 27 February 2026 9.00am EST

During the last week, the observing schedule was replanned to incorporate an observation of AT2026dbl, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Feb 20. Loads for the replanned schedule were uplinked on Feb 24. Observations that were impacted by the replan will be rescheduled in a future week.

A Chandra image release was issued on Feb 25 with three new Chandra sonifications of data of Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus. Planets and other Solar System bodies can reflect X-rays given off by the Sun, which Chandra can detect. Sonification is a process that translates data captured by Chandra and other telescopes into sound. In addition to X-rays from Chandra, these new sonifications contain data from Hubble, Cassini, and Keck telescopes. For details, see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2026/sonify11/

A Chandra press release was issued on Feb 23 describing observations of HD 61005. NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has captured the first X-ray image of an astrosphere, a vast bubble of hot gas blown by the stellar wind of the young Sun-like star HD 61005 as it pushes into cooler galactic gas and dust. The star, about 100 million years old and roughly 120 light-years away, shows much stronger winds than the present Sun, offering a rare look at what our Sun’s protective bubble may have looked like early in its history. For details, see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/26_releases/press_022326.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of AT2026dbl, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on Feb 20.
