Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 15 December 2017 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Of note this week was the release on Dec 14 of the Cycle 20 Call for Proposals. The proposal submission deadline is 15 March 2018. In conjunction with the call was the release of CALDB 4.7.7 and MARX 5.3.3 and of CXCDS 10.6.1 for standard processing. This update includes HRC time-dependent gain corrections, the HRC-I PI background spectrum, HRC-I background event lists for 2015-2017, and the PIMMS cycle 20 effective areas. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/Release_notes/CALDB_v4.7.7.html

Also of note this week was the release on Dec 8 of a Special Call for Proposals for Pathfinder Science for a Potential Chandra Successor Mission. The proposal submission deadline is 24 January 2018.

A Chandra image release was issued on Dec 12 describing a new Chandra image of Cassiopeia A, one of the most intensely studied supernova remnants. The image shows the location of several elements produced by the explosion of a massive star. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2017/casa_life/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of DM Tau, which is a follow-up to a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Nov 22, an observation of NGC 1313 X-1 coordinated with NuSTAR, and an observation of M81 coordinated with HST.
